Support for Reform Gets Even Stronger

A new poll by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation shows that public support for health care reform is on the rise again. After spending all summer screaming about death panels, killing old people, mandatory abortions, and illegal immigrants, the lies from the right have only managed to dip support by 7%, a gap that is currently disappearing again (for more ridiculous lies, and the truth behind them, check out our health care fact check sheet).

According to the report, 57% of respondents want health care now, up 4 points from last month. Only 23% still think that health care reform will make them or their family worse off, down 8 points from last month, while only 26% still think the country will be worse off, down 8 points from last month. While opponents of health care reform, pretending to represent mainstream America, were sounding the death knoll for public support, the actual public has recovered from being force-fed misinformation and deception.

As lawmakers like Senator Grassley keep standing up for the interests of the private insurance industry, it is astounding that they should choose the interests of insurers over the interests of their constituents. The time of Republican fear-mongering is over but, unfortunately for them, they don't have any viable alternatives. Especially ones that are supported by the American people. Call your Senator and Representative, let them know you are one of the majority of Americans hoping for real reform from congress.
